Level 3 - Yoga Therapy for Youth Certification - SOLD OUT

Building Resilience and Capacity to support Mental, Physical and Emotional Well-being for Youth through Yoga, Movement, Breath and other Therapeutic Approaches


PLEASE NOTE: Pre-requisites for this course are completion of both the Level 1 and Level 2 Trainings or completion of a 200-hour RYT. Please DO NOT register if you do not have these pre-requisites. It is suggested that you complete the Level 1 and Level 2 courses through Asanas for Autism and Special Needs as they are foundational courses the the Level 3.

The Yoga Therapy for Youth Foundations 100-hour Teacher Training is a foundational training in therapeutic approaches to support children and youth ages 5-17 with emotional, physical and mental health and well-being.

Participants who complete this training will receive a Certificate of Completion in 100-hours training in Yoga Therapy for Youth.

*Please note: 800 hours + in an IAYT Accredited Yoga Therapy Program is required in order to be a "Certified Yoga Therapist". This training offers therapeutic approaches to working with a wide range of youth, however it does not equal being a Certified Yoga Therapist upon completion.

Participants who have completed the Asanas for Autism and Special Needs Level 1 and Level 2 Trainings, will receive a 200-hour Yoga for Children and Youth with Complex Needs Certification through Asanas for Autism and Special Needs (with the completion of a final 5 hour Course requirement).


This course is an APD course through International Association of Yoga Therapists and counts as 80 CEU's.

Shawnee Thornton Hardy

Shawnee is a Certified Yoga Therapist, Advanced Somatic Experiencing© Practitioner, M.Ed., and Educational/Behavioral Specialist. She is the Founder of Asanas for Autism and Special Needs and the Founder/Director of Yoga Therapy for Youth Certification Program. Shawnee has worked with children and adults with and complex and diverse needs for over 20 years. She has specialized in working with children and adults with significant cognitive and language delays, sensory processing challenges, as well as significant behavior challenges. Shawnee works with private clients of all abilities to facilitate health and healing. Her goal is to bring the experience of yoga to all individuals no matter their differences or challenges. She wrote a published a book, Asanas for Autism and Special Needs – Yoga to Help Children with Their Emotions, Self-Regulation and Body Awareness and is the creator of the C.A.L.M.M Yoga Toolkit. She is in the process of writing her second published book on the topic of Yoga Therapy for Youth.

She started a Yoga School through Yoga Alliance in order to train others in yoga approaches to support children and adults with autism/autistic adults and children and adults with complex needs needs and travels globally to share her teachings. Shawnee is dedicated to helping support youth and adults in developing strategies to cope with stress in order to live happier, healthier more peaceful lives.

Through her study and experience teaching yoga to her students in her classroom, she quickly realized the benefits of yoga on her students attention and focus, reduced anxiety, body awareness and development of calming strategies. She also noticed the positive reaction from her students and the excitement they displayed each time they practiced yoga. She has experienced first hand the benefits yoga can provide to health and overall well-being. She has a unique combination of understanding autism and other special needs and knowing how to teach and reach these young people.

Shawnee has led several workshops at major conferences both in the US and Internationally; including MISTY (Montreal International Symposium for Yoga Therapy) and IAYT (International Association of Yoga Therapists) SYTAR Conference on Yoga for Sensory Processing and Self-Regulation for children with ASD, BOOST Conference (Best Out of School Time) on Yoga for Children with Special Needs , Yoga and Mindfulness for Youth and Yoga to Reduce Stress and Increase Relaxation for Educators. TRUST Conference (Teens Understanding and Reflecting Stigma Together) on Learning to Breath, Yoga and Mindfulness for Teens, including teens struggling with mental illness and UCSD Bridging the Hearts and Minds of Youth Conference on Yoga and Mindfulness for Sensory Integration and Self-Regulation.

Shawnee also offers private and small group therapeutic sessions for children and adults as well as yoga and somatic movement workshops and trainings through her company Embodied Wellness Yoga Therapy.

When does the course start and finish?
The course begins January 8th and ends April 18th, 2021
How long do I have access to the course?
You will have access to the course for 1 year from the start date.
Is the registration refundable?
The registration is non-refundable for any and all reasons. There will be NO exceptions. Should you not be able to attend the course for un-forseen circumstances you will have the option to transfer to a future online course. Please note - there is no guarantee when or if the course will be offered again.
Do I have to attend the Zoom Meetings?
Yes. Attendance in all of the Zoom meetings is a requirement for completion of the course.
Can I pay in installments?
Yes, there is an option to pay all at once or in installments when you register.
Will I be a Certified Yoga Therapist when I complete this course?
No. Becoming a Certified Yoga Therapist requires enrollment in an 800+ hour accredited yoga therapy program. You will receive a 100-hour Yoga Therapy for Youth Certificate upon completion of the course.
Does this course offer CEU's?
This course in an approved APD course through the IAYT - International Association of Yoga Therapists. The course offers 80 CEU's through IAYT.
Will I have contact with the faculty and other participants for this course?
Yes. You will have the opportunity to learn from and connect with the faculty in the scheduled Zoom meetings.
Do I need to be a yoga teacher or have yoga experience to take the course?
Yes. The pre-requisites for the course are completion of the Level 1 and Level 2 Trainings through Asanas for Autism and Special Needs or a 200 hour RYT certification.
