This experiential workshop explores simple, accessible therapeutic yoga practices to support teens and young adults with scoliosis.
Together, we will weave together perspectives from physical therapy, yoga therapy, and somatic movement to offer practical tools that support the body, breath, and overall sense of well-being.
This training emphasizes helping young people feel more confident, capable, and connected in their unique bodies, while honoring where they are and what feels supportive and sustainable for them.
What you'll explore
- A foundational understanding of scoliosis and how it may impact movement, posture, breath and mental/emotional state.
- The relationship between spinal curvature and breathing patterns
- Accessible asana variations and adaptations to support strength, stability, and balance
- Simple, supportive breath practices to encourage awareness and ease
- Movement-based practices to enhance body awareness and nervous system regulation
- Ways to support young people in building confidence, self-esteem, and agency in their bodies
Our Approach
This workshop focuses on offering practices that are:
- Accessible and adaptable to a wide range of bodies and experiences
- Simple and sustainable, so they can be integrated into daily life
- Supportive of each individual’s willingness and readiness to engage
Rather than pushing or correcting, we explore how to meet the body with curiosity, support, and choice.

Your Instructor
Physical Therapist, C-IAYT- Certified Yoga Therapist
Rachel is the co-founder of Wisdom Body Yoga Therapy School and organizes Yoga In Medicine Conferences for the UCSD Center for Integrative Medicine. Her book Yoga for a Happy Back: A Teacher’s Guide to Spinal Health through Yoga Therapy was be published in May of 2016, and her second book Scoliosis, Yoga Therapy and The Art of Letting Go was released September 2016. She also wrote a chapter on Yoga Therapy for Teens with Scoliosis in Shawnee Thornton Hardy's new book - Yoga Therapy for Children and Teens with Complex Needs - A Somatosensory Approach to Mental, Emotional and Physical Wellbeing
Rachel is a graduate of McGill University, and completed her 2000-hour teacher training with Aadil Palkhivala at the College of Purna Yoga and has studied intensively with Judith Hanson Lasater. Rachel has integrated yoga into her clinical physical therapy practice since 2002.
She lives in Ra’anana, Israel with her two sons.
